SNPE Vectan A1

Find all VECTAN load data in the powder manufacturer section.

Vectan A1 is a fast-burning, single-base nitrocellulose powder manufactured by the French propellant company Eurenco (formerly SNPE). It sits at the faster end of Vectan's pistol powder lineup, making it well-suited for standard-pressure handgun cartridges where quick ignition and consistent burn rates are essential.

In terms of application, A1 excels in mid-weight loads for calibers like 9mm Parabellum, .38 Special, and .380 ACP, where it produces clean, efficient combustion with relatively low residue. Its burn speed is broadly comparable to Alliant Green Dot or Hodgdon Clays, placing it in a versatile middle ground — fast enough for light target loads, yet controllable enough to approach standard-pressure maximums without excessive pressure spikes.

A1 has a bulk density of approximately 0.52 g/cm³, which means volumetric measuring throws relatively consistent charges, an advantage for handloaders using powder measures rather than scales. It meters well through most standard powder measures.

Reloaders appreciate A1 for its clean burn characteristics and mild muzzle flash, particularly in shorter-barreled pistols. Temperature sensitivity is moderate, typical of single-base powders, meaning charge weights may need slight adjustment between cold-weather and warm-weather shooting sessions.

As with all Vectan propellants, load data from Eurenco's official reloading manuals should always be consulted, as substituting A1 for visually similar powders without verified data can produce dangerous pressure levels.
