Norma Tipstrike 170gr load. Danger from Norma?

I am working up new loads for the Norma Tipstrike 170gr together with Norma 202 powder and I am totally confused.

When searching the XXL reloading site, I find a recipe with a Max load of of 40.1gr, Min 33,6.

This (max) load should result in 87% of max pressure.

Now, moving over to Norma homepage, I find the recommended max to be 44.0gr and Min 41.2gr...

How can there be such a massive difference between Max and Min between these two sources?

Avoid using load data for LEAD bullets for LEAD FREE bullets and the other way around as well, the construction is vastly different and it might cause severe issues. The capacity behind the bullets will change and so will the pressure. Better to use comparable LEAD bullets with slightly different weights. MY OBSERVATION is that puplished load data pushed the pressues a bit high in the chase for higher speeds. So, be carefull and do test max loads straight off. But note that XXLRELOADING is using CIP max pressure of 60.000PSI where most load data probably is using SAAMI max pressure of 62.000PSI. This will of cause also make a difference. Also XXL have a default 10% safety buffer. There is no reason for not using SAAMI pressures in my mind, but this cannot be toggled in XXL. Also be carefull using GORDONS until you have some experience, small changes to settings may render your data useless and dangerous. Don't worry you will quickly get into it and it is a great tool. But start by taking a look at other load data with comparable bullets and powder. Unfortunately you have to make your own decision on how to proceed.

.416 Barrett MRAD ELR (50gr A-TIP 422gr MTAC)

I've been shooting to the limits of the calibers I own so I recently purchased a .416 Barrett MRAD ELR. I'm looking for load data from someone that might have already been down this path. My plan is H50BMG and Hornady 500gr A-TIP and Cutting Edge 422gr MTAC projectiles. I'm pretty used to working the loads up to the most consistent and predictable. Once or twice a year my friends and I go to east Orgon for farm pest mitigation so we usually really press the FPS for the effects... LOL

Based on the limited load data I've been able to find online, it seems the 500gr A-TIP is pretty happy with 185-195gr of H50. I was planning to make a couple sets in this range and see what we get. Any feedback would be great.

I noticed the COL listed here for the 454 Casull is shorter than the COL listed in Lee, Hodgson, Lyman, and other load data sets. I'm just starting my journey into reloading so I'm a complete novice so wanted to know why it says max cartridge length of 1.68" and a COL of 1.765" on the schematic of the cartridge? I almost loaded some Hornady XTP Mags using the 1.665" number labeled as cartridge length. I doubled checked the number and saw that all my other load data manuals were listing the cartridge length as 1.765" and so loaded them at that number instead. Am I missing something and the cartridge length stands for something other than COL? Thanks for the info.

I would recommend using the OAL Trim dimension listed on the manufactures load data. Hornady uses 1.373"/1.383" as your min/max trim rates. The 240/300gr XTP have a COAL of 1.745". If at any time you are unsure of your COAL, start at the max of 1.765" and check chamber fit and function. To tight. Lower .010" (1.755") and check, Repeat if necessary. Try to use the recommended manufactures COAL for any bullet, ie, Barnes, Sierra, Speer, etc.

Goal velocity on XXL vs the manufacturers website?

Hi, folks.

I'm reloading my .375 H&H with Peregrine VLR4 230gr bullets, using Lovex S062 powder.

However, I'm battling to find a stable velocity which also GROUPS well on the target. I'm seeing a BIG discrepancy, though, between what the target velocities are on this XXL site, versus that on Peregrine's website. XXL has the target velocity at 2710 fps, where Peregrine has the velocity at 2920 fps.

Personally, I think 2920 fps for a 230gr out of a .375 is rather fast, but that comes from the manufacturer.

Question is - what should my goal be? Do I aim for what the manufacturer says, or go by the XXL load data?

Any advice?

I think XXL only loads to roughly 90% of max charge. Others might not. I find that BARNES max load data always is in the overpressure zone as an example. As other here says, load to your weapon, use puplic load data as guidelines.

Barnes TSX BT bullet Follow Up Questions

Thank xxlreloading team for adding the .264 TSX BT to the database.

When I entered 6.5 Creedmoor data, I saw that load information for the Barnes TSX BT appeared instantly. The speed amazed me, and I’m curious:

Are these data pulled from published sources (e.g., manuals or forum posts)?
Or are they extrapolated from bullets with similar geometry?

If the values are indeed extrapolated, could you also provide projected loads for the Barnes TSX BT in 6.5 Grendel?

We have added load data for the 6.5 Grendel but want to flag that the bullet length is at the upper limit and that the 120gr version seems more suited.
