The 7-6.5 PRCW (Precision Rifle Cartridge, Wheeler Improved) is a 7 mm wildcat designed by gunsmith Alex Wheeler, formed by necking the 6.5 PRC case up to .284" with a refined lead angle and base spec. Sometimes simply called the 7 PRCW, it slots between the .284 Winchester / .284 Shehane and Hornady's longer 7 mm PRC, retaining the 6.5 PRC's 2.030" case length and inheriting its 65,000 psi pressure ceiling, while offering roughly 67–69 grains of water capacity once fire-formed — comparable to a .284 Shehane but on the modern, beltless 0.532" PRC head.
Originally developed for F-Open competition, it has spread into long-range tactical and hunting use because it pushes 180-grain high-BC 7 mm bullets to around 2,800 fps from a 24" barrel without the extra case length of the 7 mm PRC, making it a true short-action magnum. Brass is available factory-headstamped from ADG, or easily formed from 6.5 PRC. As a wildcat there is no fixed COAL — short-action magazine builds run about 2.955", while F-Class chambers with extended freebore reach 3.00–3.10"+ to seat heavy bullets long.
