Load data for Merlin (0.223 '' diameter | 55 gr weight) bullet from Virtus: .223 | 55gr | Merlin Virtus .223 | 55gr | Merlin Virtus Our reloading data for the .223 | 55gr | Merlin Virtus bullet covers a total of 27 suitable calibers and 1701 load recipes Load Data Similar Bullets The Virtus Merlin line of copper monolithic projectiles has similar characteristics compared to the Virtus Eagle line. This bullet has been developed for a higher ballistic co-efficient in mind resulting in better retained velocity and energy over a longer distance. This bullet will also have less wind drift at extended ranges compared to the Virtus Eagle line of bullets. Compared to the same weight class of other well-known projectile manufactures, it is second to none with far better terminal performance due to the unique design. It has been created to engage live quarry at extended ethical distances within the prescribed impact velocities. Most lead projectiles will have good terminal performance at 1800fps impact velocity and higher. Some of the premium lead projectile will perform from even 1600fps impact velocities but have the current issue of contaminating the carcass of any live quarry with lead. Tests for terminal performance have shown that the Virtus Merlin projectile will still preform exceptionally well at impact velocities as low as 1500 feet per second making it very attractive as a non-lead alternative. Load for caliber .223 Rem. with .224 | 73gr | Hornady ELD-Match bullet and Vihtavuori N135 powder, and a C.O.L. of 2.226'' shared by our community members You can now also calculate the bullet trajectory for any of your loads. Once a load like this one fulfills the following criteria, you will see the feature as indicated in the image on the right / below: there is a weapon associated with the load, the weapon has a value for sight height, the load has a recorded muzzle velocity, the load is rated ("thumbs up or down"), we have a ballistic coefficient for the bullet. Sight Height: Line of sight above the center of the barrel muzzle. Temperature: Assumed temperature for trajectory calculation. Lower tempertures result in higher air density and a slightly larger drag and vice versa. Humidity: Assumed humidity for trajectory calculation. Higher humidity result in more water particles and a slightly larger drag and vice versa. Altitude: Assued altitude for trajectory calculation. Higher altitude results in lower air density and a slightly lower drag and vice versa. OZD: Optimum Zeroing Distance or Most Favorable Zero Range refers to the distance at which a rifle is sighted in so that the bullet's trajectory remains within a defined vertical margin — typically ±4 cm / ±1.75 '' — from the line of sight over a certain range. This means: The shooter can aim directly at the target up to the GEE without adjusting the scope or holdover. Within this range, the bullet stays inside the vital zone (for example, a deer’s kill zone, approximately 8 cm / 3.5'' high). OZD Max Height: Distance at which the max. OZD height is reached and max. OZD height OZD LoS Crossing1: Distance at which the bullet crosses the line of sight the first time OZD LoS Crossing2 (OZD): Distance at which the bullet crosses the line of sight the second time. Typically referred to as OZD OZD Max Distance (OZD): Distance at which the bullet is more than the OZD height below the line of sight
