The 6.5-06 A-Square is a high-performance rifle cartridge developed by A-Square, a company known for precision ammunition. This cartridge is based on the .30-06 Springfield case, necked down to accommodate 6.5mm bullets, offering improved ballistic efficiency and a flatter trajectory. The concept behind this cartridge is to combine the excellent case capacity of the .30-06 with the high ballistic coefficient of 6.5mm bullets, making it suitable for long-range shooting and hunting.
The 6.5-06 A-Square can fire bullets ranging from 120 to 140 grains at high velocities, making it ideal for medium to large game hunting, such as deer, elk, and even some African plains game. Its long-range accuracy also makes it a favored choice among target shooters.
Although similar to the 6.5-284 Norma and 6.5 Creedmoor in performance, the 6.5-06 A-Square offers slightly better velocities due to its larger powder capacity. However, it’s less popular due to the widespread availability of factory ammunition for those more modern cartridges. Reloading is the primary method for using this cartridge, as factory-loaded ammunition is scarce. Overall, the 6.5-06 A-Square is a powerful, versatile option for shooters and hunters seeking precision and power.
