The 6x47 Swiss Match (6x47 SM) is a centerfire, bottlenecked cartridge designed for precision long-range shooting. It was developed by RWS (Rheinisch-Westfälische Sprengstoff-Fabriken) in Switzerland in the 1970s and is based on the 6mm BR cartridge case, which is itself based on the .308 Winchester case. The 6x47 SM has a bullet diameter of .243 inches (6.17mm) and a case length of 47mm.The cartridge was designed to offer superior accuracy and consistency, as well as long-range performance. It is capable of firing high-BC bullets at high velocities, resulting in excellent long-range accuracy and terminal ballistics. The cartridge's low recoil and flat trajectory make it a popular choice among competitive shooters and long-range enthusiasts. The 6x47 SM is also suitable for hunting a variety of game, from varmints and predators to larger game such as deer and antelope. However, it may not be the best choice for very large game due to its relatively light bullet weight.
