- The 6.5 PRC (Precision Rifle Cartridge) is the newest addition to the large family of centerfire cartridges that shoot .264-inch bullets. Developed and named for the Precision Rifle Series, this cartridge is based on the relatively unknown .300 Ruger Compact Magnum case, necked down to hold a 6.5mm bullet. The 6.5 PRC is capable of firing a bullet faster than its predecessor, the 6.5 Creedmoor, resulting in a flatter trajectory and more resistance to wind drift. This makes it an ideal choice for hunters and competitive shooters alike who are looking for accuracy and extended range performance from their rifle cartridge. In addition to its impressive ballistics, the 6.5 PRC offers excellent terminal performance on game animals due to its hard-hitting nature and high ballistic coefficient bullets available in this caliber. It has quickly become one of the most popular cartridges among long-range shooters due to its combination of accuracy, flat trajectory, and extended range performance.
When aggregating the ballistic performance of 140 suitable bullets for this caliber, you get an average powder charge of 56.2gr | 3.64g , an average muzzle velocity (V0) of 3021fps | 921m/s , and an average muzzle energy (E0) of 3452 Joule.
