Load data compare to powder manufacturer

Hi, I recently joined to find data for 8x68s. Not many are available from powder or bullet manufacturer.

However, for the few I had there is a huge difference that I find hard to explain.

ex. From vihta published data. N160 and accubond 200 gr. Max load listed at 70.r gr.

Xxl reload give 64.3 gr as max load … and a lower MV of course.

Any insight ?

Cheers

Hi - this topic is the most commenly discussed and we get many emails with similar enquiries. However, we are happy to explain again:

  • When comparing load data, make sure you compare apples with apples, i.e. load data based on similar inputs

  • Our inputs are always stated on each load page, most importantly: COL, case capacity and safety buffer

  • In this particular case, you compare our data with a 3.374" to 3.425" at VH. We have a safety buffer of 10% while VH assumes 0

  • You can use our personalized load calculator and adjust our values to those og VH and get to a max load of 67.7 g vs. 70.4 of VH - a difference of 5%

  • Unfortunatly, VH only specifies that they use a RWS case but do not state the case capcity. if it is larger than what we assume, the gap would be reduced further.

Hope this helps to clarify!

Custom Bullet Load

Good afternoon Sydney time. I am loading some 9mm 140 grain Semi Wad Cutters with Lovex powder. I can’t seem to find the brand of bullet I have, which is an Aussie Brand called Black Widow. Is there a way to enter this name in my diary? I can only see the drop down selection and its not there. Thanks in advance.

No - you can only add existing bullets. We will add Black Widow and in about 2 hours you can add / request your bullet with the necessary details here: https://www.xxlreloading.com/request-new-bullet-to-be-added here:

I'm reloading for 7mm prc. 160 grain acubond bullet. Using imr 7828 scc powder. 66.8 grains was what came up. This over pressured. Fps was 3220. Can anyone tell me how much to back down on grains to make it not over pressure.

Have no knowledge on the 7mm PRC. I do use IMR 7828 powder- what do your primer pockets / primers look like if you pushing hi psi .I am not a go-go velocity loader. I load to get the job done an if needed i'll go to the next caliber up in my collection. Love the 7mm but will go to the 300Wby or to 300 Win Mag or the 30-378 Wby or the 338 Win or 338 Lapua and heavier if need be. I would back it down a few grains- you asking a super question. Not all guns are created the same.

BACK IT DOWN AND WORK BACK UP-double check your brass and primers/ pockets, Good luck.
